Cultural & Historical City Tour

It is a quickly and pleasant tour starting at Buzzing Municipal Market, observing the day life of the local people ( Amazonenses), and having a partial view of the floating harbor. Following, a walk departing from Praça Heliodoro Balbi (also known as Praça da Polícia) up to Palácio Rio Negro, knowing a little about the history of Manaus and finally a visit to Teatro Amazonas ( Opera House ), the symbol of the rich period of rubber time. On the return, a little stop at Praça da República, recovering the past of building and monuments.

The Amazonas theatre, was inaugurated on December, 31st 1896, and it is an the most important architectonic building from the prosperous rubber period and main artistic cultural patrimony of the Amazonas State. It works regularly as an opera house, presenting regional, national and international events.

The Palácio Rio Negro until 1917 was used as the residence of a very rich rubber business man, after that it was the Govern of Amazonas State Office until 1996. Nowadays, it contemplates exhibits and chamber shows.

The Buzzing Municipal Market Adolpho Lisboa, was built in front of the Negro River, in art nouveau style and inaugurated on 1882.
Its architecture is compared to the extinct Les Hales Market, from Paris. It works until these days as a business center of regional products.

Scientific City Tour

This tour starts at Bosque da Ciência (INPA Amazonas National Research Institute), where a young guide will accompany you by a trail in the forest explaining about trees and insects, and also a little about the local researches . Between them, the project to preserve the Peixe-boi (Trichecus inunguis) .
Following, the visit to Museu de Ciência Naturais (Natural Science Museum), where it is possible to know some species of regional fish, some of them alive and other embalmed and also a big collection of butterfly and insects.

The Bosque da Ciência, is a ecological park inaugurated in 1995, in celebration of 40 years of INPA foundation.

There, it is possible to observe some animals that is live freely in the park, as well as the vegetation including fruit, medicinal and regional trees like Mahogany.

The Museu de Ciências Naturais (Natural Science Museum) is managed by Associação Naturalista da Amazônia ant it shows a beautiful collection of butterfly, insects and fish of the region.

CIGS - Zoo ( Instructions on Forest War )

Visiting the CIGS Zoo, localized in military area, rounded by preserved forest, with structure able to shelter animals from local fauna with care of the veterinary.

Presidente Figueiredo waterfalls

Presidente Figueiredo City, the scenery of adventure and ecological tourism, opens its gates for you. Created in 1981, the city received its name in homage to the first President of Amazonas Province, João Baptista de Figueiredo Terreiro Aranha (1798-1861). Accessed by BR 174 highway and sited 107 km north of Manaus, the city lives from mineral extraction, agriculture and tourism. In the second fortnight on May, the city celebrates the Cupuaçu Party, fruit of which is the largest producer in Amazonas State.

Its area holds ecological reserves, aboriginal areas (Waimiri Atroari), small mining farm, Balbina hydroelectric dam (70 km far from Pres. Figueiredo City), caves, grottos, lakes, rivers, small creeks (igaparés) and many waterfalls and rapids.

The pick-up starts at 7:30 AM in downtown hotels with meeting point is at 8:20 AM at Tropical Ecoresort Lobby. The expedition departs at 09:00 AM from Tropical Hotel with destination to the town of Presidente Figueiredo, 107 Km far from Manaus. In Presidente Figueiredo, we visit the Ecological Reserve of Iracema and rapid of Urubuí. They are situated in rocky relief, possessing one of the biggest arrangements of waterfalls. The forest and the waterfalls conjugate harmony of alive and exuberant nature for the meeting of flora and fauna. Lunch is included and local restaurant followed by a visit to Santuário Falls. The excursion returns in the afternoon with drop-off in the hotels.
