September 13, 2009 - 1:16 am No Comments

http://www.fertur-travel.com/chachapoyas_tours.html

Huanca Urco is a canyon five minutes from the town of Huancas, itself only 20 minutes from Chachapoyas.

The canyon has a direct drop 2000 meters deep.
The Sonche River runs along its base. Its a small but powerful river.
Along its route you can enjoy a variety of orchids, seasonal plants, medicinal herbs, and multicolored landscapes.

Narrow paths lead down to the bottom of the canyon and follow the course of the river.
On the other side immense mesas loom over the valley.. In times of flooding they form a string of seven waterfalls that together create a spectacular natural scene.

Travel Agency in Peru - Sarcophagi of Karajía

August 22, 2009 - 7:04 pm 2 Comments

http://www.fertur-travel.com/chachapoyas_tours.html

The Sarcophagi of Karajia belong to the Chipuric archaeological complex, part of the Chachapoyas culture that dominated Northern Peru from the 11th to the 15th Century AD.

The sarcophagi are 48 kilometers northeast of the city of Chachapoyas..
and stand out for their cliff side location and the unique methods used to inter the dead.
They appear in groups of between 4 and 8 human figures, joined at the hip, all leaning with their backs to the cliff..

The sarcophagi consist of two parts, the head and the torso, which contains the funeral capsule and a human body in the fetal position.

The head is crowned by a headdress or decoration, and each has a face with a forbidding expression. Together these sarcophagi are known by locals as the Purunmachos, which means old, uncivilized male bosses.

Live the Legend - A magic country called Peru

August 16, 2009 - 7:15 pm 6 Comments

Peru, the land of the Incas, awaits you with a world of adventure and excitement.

The perfectly fitted stones of this glorious empire continue to be the main attraction to people from all over the world. Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas discovered centuries after the last Conquistador left, remains a web of riddles for the adventurer and the scientist to tackle. The Nazca lines, what were they, UFO landing sites or a pathway to the heavens and the gods?

You do not need to be a history buff to enjoy Peru. Of late, thousands of people have dared visit the still as yet unknown Amazon Rainforest (selva) in search of cures for the world’s illnesses by tapping into the knowledge of Shamans (medicine men) who may hold the secret to help us defeat the incurable.

You can have a reasonably comfortable trip to the deeps of the jungle in Iquitos, starting at the sea side, crossing the Andes, and slowly making your way down. As Iquitos isn’t reachable by road, the last two days will be spent on an Amazon Cruise boat. But if you want to get to the selva quickly, just fly one of the modern airlines that serves Iquitos and Tarapoto with daily flights from Lima. Despite being visited by almost 1.5 million foreigners each year, you can always find a place off the beaten track, where you will be the main attraction for the locals.

On the way to the low jungle in the Amazon Basin, some tourists will find that the high jungle plateau is a good place for them. Especially since it can tend to have a slightly lower humidity level than the low jungle areas. Tarapoto is the most important city in the area, and it is the trade center for the District of San Martin. Tourists aren’t croweded into Tarapoto and surrounding cities as might be found in some other locales in Peru, but they are generally treated very well by the locals who welcome their business.

You may not be the adventerous type, but relax. Peru is working hard at becoming a modern country equipping itself to face the challenges of the new millenium. The five star hotels, the restaurants, and the nightlife will dazzle you. So come and explore this exciting land, rich in history and culture. Click now on any of the choices below to obtain information and tips to make your trip a delightful experience. Hasta la vista amigos! y Buen Viaje!

Travel Agency in Peru - The Fortress of Kuelap

August 7, 2009 - 8:06 pm No Comments

http://www.fertur-travel.com/chachapoyas_tours.html

The Fortress of Kuelap is one of Perus hidden archaeological treaures, often called the Machu Picchu of the North

Built on a mountain ridge at an altitude of 3000 meters above sea level, the fortress is proof of the incredible stoneworking skill of the Chachapoyas people, who dominated the region between 1000 and 1400 AD.

The gigantic wall that protects the city includes a series of guard posts, a tower built overlooking a sheer cliff and three narrow entrances that forced invaders to enter in single file.
The wall reaches a height of 8 meters and extends for more than 600 meters to completely encircle the ruins.

The city inside is made entirely of stone, but in a very different architectural style from the Incas, with carvings of human faces and animal figures lining the main entrance passageway.
A string of geometric shapes, rhomboid stonework is built into the walls of most buildings.
The most common houses take the form of more than 400 large circular buildings, some of which have been reconstructed with conical thatched roofs to give visitors an idea of what they looked like when people were living here.

Kuelaps remote location at the top of a cloud forest means it gets fewer visitors than the more famous attractions around Cusco, but those that make it here get a real sense of ancient life in an eerie, isolated setting, surrounded by orchids, moss-laden trees and bromeliads.

The mix of ancient ruins and encroaching natural beauty creates a powerful impression.
Its easy to imagine how the fortress remained impregnable to armies like the Wari and other invaders.

It took an empire like the Incas to conquer Kuelap and the Chachapoyas people, but they continued to fight the invaders for decades after their defeat. Theyve left little of their language and culture to history, but their stone cities stand as their greatest monument.

Travel Agency in Peru - The Virgin Asunta, the Patron of Chachapoyas

July 27, 2009 - 8:53 am No Comments

http://www.fertur-travel.com/chachapoyas_tours.html

Each 15th of August the church and parish of Chachapoyas celebrate the festival of Mama Asunta
It all started between 1842 and 1845 when a local man, Julián Monteza returned from living in the Ecuadorian capital Quito…

He brought back two beautiful religious icons, the first was a statue of Jesus of Nazareth, the second depicted the Virgin of the umption.

With the passage of years, customs and tradition she was rebaptised with the name Virign Asunta.
The arrival of the statues from Ecuador was greeted by a procession, with drums and horns, but also in a religious spirit.

Since then Chachapoyas has reprised the festival every year, with everyone in town joining the fervent celebrations.
