On vacation in Peru Yarapa River Lodge we came across a woodpecker knocking on a tree, when we came closer we saw the fight between a femail woodpecker and a snake.

The snake is: Olive whipsnake, chironious fuscus

The two most easily accessible clay licks in Ecuador are administered by the Napo Wildlife Center and visited by Sacha Lodge, Sani Lodge, La Selva Lodge and the Manatee Floating Hotel. You can easily visit both licks in one morning. This shows the second lick or the parakeet lick. The lodge has some nice boats with modern outboard engines, but one day they took us on a fishing/kayaking trip with the old boat - the old style engine was super loud (even our guides stuck their fingers in their ear)! But I thought it was fun to be cruising the river just like the locals do it. Our awesome senior guide, Raphael, is at the front of the boat making jokes with the younger staff. What a fun place, something we will never forget.
