Only one species present in Florida. It is thought to be a hybrid of cichla monoculus and cichla ocellaris. There are 9 described species of cichla though.

This video reminds me of when I was fishing for peacock bass in a small South Florida canal (with the exception of the vagrant taking a nap along the canal shoreline). They are great fighting fish. Catch and release are a must for these South American imports. What lures did you use?
