May 23, 2010 - 3:44 am 4 Comments

i want to go fishing tomorrow in my neighborhod canal for some peacock bass. I go all the time but i want to know around what time odf the day is the best time of day to fish for them. any other tips would help alot . Thanks ! :)
Pretty much all day. Mornings and evenings would probably be your best times to go, but afternoons are good too. If you watch peacock bass videos on youtube, you’ll see guys catching them in the middle of the day. As for tips? Use heavy tackle and heavy-duty lures, a big peacock bass will tear apart and knock the piss out of standard lures.

And peacock bass are nothing like largemouths. They are a whole ‘nother species. Peacocks are a cichlid, largemouths are a sunfish…

best hard baits, hooks, and methods for catching decent sized largemouth and peacock bass?

April 24, 2010 - 10:13 am 3 Comments

please answer my questions above, and what are some tips for catching largemouth and peacock like what kind of areas should i look for in lakes?

Best hard baits for large mouth bass right now in my opinion would be Rapala X-raps sizes 6, 8, and 10, in olive green, and rainbow trout colors. Or the BBZ 4 inch shad in natural shad color, floating, or slow sinking versions. The bbz shad is kind of pricey at $20-25 bucks a pop, but well worth it, make sure you use heavy line because some big bass are going to smack that thing, and im sure peacock bass will to. Koppers Live Target Bluegill and Pumpkinseed crank baits will work fairly well after the sunfish spawn, and i do believe they come with Daiichi hooks, which are sharp as ssshit! 4-6 inch plastic night crawlers/stick worms rigged wacky or texas style (with no weight) work very well also. When using the X-raps cast em’ out crank a few times then jerk, jerk, pause, repeat all the way back to you, sometimes you’ll have to figure out a different retrieve cadence if they don’t hit on the jerk jerk pause. Look for large mouth to be shallow this time of year, especially around any docks, weeds, rocks, logs, and big blown down trees, or trees/branches hanging over the water just above the surface (big bass love overhangs). Sorry i don’t know very much at all about fishing for peacock bass. On tv Jimmy Houston was fishing for peacock bass back in little protected cove areas with allot of over hangs, and he was using Zara Puppies, and Jr. Spooks and he was rippin em’ left and right. Good luck, hope this helps!

Where Can I Catch Peacock Bass in Florida?

April 6, 2010 - 8:38 am 1 Comment

I am from Polk County, FL. I am looking for the closest place I can go to catch peacock bass. Also, any pointers or tips you may have would be appreciated. Thanks

The Tamiami Canal is one of the best places to catch Peacock Bass. The Tamiami has the easiest "public access" ramps than any other.

Can my 8inch red tail catfish live with my 4inch peacock bass and my 3 4inch clown loaches?

March 31, 2010 - 2:16 am 3 Comments

your catfish will probably eat your loaches. loaches need groups of 5 or more. you would need a 1000 gallon pond just to accommodate your catfish and bass. Your catfish could reach up to 60 inches full grown, so the answer to your question is a big fat NO.

Will my peacock bass eat my arowana?

March 29, 2010 - 2:26 am 1 Comment

i have a small bass bought 6in and an 10in bass and i just got 4 or 5 inch arowana and i have the tank divided. But i want to take the divider out so he has more swimming space but im afriad of my peacock bass eating him. The reason i say that is my peackbass has killed 2 6in needle fish 2 leaf fish. and the 2 bass fight all the time. So should i take the divder or leave it?

Not yet, but bass is a predatory fish and as a result of that will do that once it got bigger. Please avoid keeping them together.

peacock bass with white spots on fins and body, need help?

February 25, 2010 - 11:32 am 3 Comments

my juvenile peacock bass started to have these white spot on it boby, tail, and fins, other than that it seems pretty normal. i wonder if those white spots could be fungus? if so what can i buy to treats it.

It sounds like ich.

I usually treat ich with a salt solution, as I don’t like chemicals that have synthetic dyes. I would also suggest regularly vacuuming your tank gravel when ich is not present on your fish….due to the parasite’s life-cycle.

Research the ich parasite and its life-cycle and go from there. Like I said, I prefer salt, but there are many chemicals on the market that may also be effective.
