Which travel books is better: Fodors, Moon or National Geographic Traveler?

January 17, 2010 - 8:39 am 3 Comments

I am going to travel to one Central American country, need a book with local hotels, restaurants, roads and other points of interest listings.

Amazon has these four: Lonely Planer, Fodors, Moon and National Geographic Traveler. All about $13-$17.

Which one is better?

Lonely Planet!!! By far the best travel books. I have tried them all and I have been to different locations in the far east, europe and south america, US and Hawaii also.

You can also take these books out the the library or buy slightly used copies on Amazon. I have done that too.

Space travel. Astral bodies lack mass so does rules of space/time apply to them?

January 13, 2010 - 5:48 pm 3 Comments

If Astral projection is true (out of our bodies) then we in that form should not be limited to natural laws of space time and distance for that matter.

Just hanging out on another planet observing Aliens doing stuff. I thought would be cool, but then again just going to the Amazon and watching the wild life there would be kinda the same. Do you think it’s possible for us to evolve to the point of astral travel to other worlds?

No space/time & scientific laws as we currently understand them do not apply to the astral body nor the astral realm. Space/time do not really exist in the way scientists currently understand it. They are illusions. As long as you are subjected to this dimension & your 5 physical senses you will never really see past these illusions with your ‘ordinary senses’ (at least not in this time in evolution).

What do you mean: ‘Do you think it’s possible for us to evolve to the point of astral travel to other worlds?’
We don’t have to evolve more in order to do it. We already can do it. It’s a natural ability we all have. It’s up to you to learn & practice it if you want to experience it for yourself. People have been doing it for thousands of years. In modern society though it is not common because we are all so materialistically minded & too reliant on technology. These things will hinder & suppress your natural abilities.

The astral body is not made of electricity or anything similar. It is a nonphysical formless construction of your mind & is a part of your very mind itself.

What is a job in science that gets you to travel to places like the Amazon, and other places like that ?

Places like Egypt, the Amazon, Africa, ect. A Job that demands exploration.

You may want to study archeology or anthropology which would allow you to travel and learn about ancient civilizations. As a sociologist, you could travel and learn about other cultures but that is not the only thing one can do with a sociology degree and you would need a Phd. in order to get jobs traveling and doing field research. Sociologist’s also do things such as help set up social service organizations in local communities and get involved in local government.

Call up a cruise line and ask them. Many of them do take that route. Good luck!

cheap flights to the amazon?

November 3, 2009 - 9:57 am 4 Comments

hello! me and my boyfriend are looking to travel to Brazil and go to the Amazon rain forest mid January time…the cheapest flights we can find are £700 each return. Was wondering if anyone has been for any cheaper? The airport needs to be fairly close to any part of the amazon…we were looking at Manaus.

Thanks!

Flights to Brazil will take between 16 and 22 hours depending on your route. There are few direct flights from the UK so it may be sensible to find a european or US gateway.

Try some of the online sites like travelsupermarket and cheapflights and also independent travel agencies like www.journeysalacarte.co.uk or travelbag for example. Independent travel agents have more scope in the range of airlines they can access than the normal High St agencies and they also specialise in the independent travel scene rather than package holidays to the Costas.

Brazil is a former Portuguese colony so trying TAP the Portuguese airline and Varig the Brazilian national carrier would be a good idea.

I think it likely that you will end up with a three part journey in the end, UK to gateway, then to major airport in Brazil and then a local flight to the Amazon. That would point me to the independent agents as this is where they shine.

Good luck

I would like to Travel to Amazon Forests for discovery?

October 9, 2009 - 11:51 am 1 Comment

I want to be Explorer and discover unidentified places. The only one place I could think of is Amazon Forests

Can you please guide me to a good agent or group that I can go with

I dont mind risking my life for this

If that’s the only unexplored area you can think of, I suggest you explore some tamer areas first and get some knowledge of the world. To try to ‘discover unidentified places’ in areas such as the amazon jungle as a novice would be virtual suicide.

What is the name of the film about a ship in the Amazon?

September 27, 2009 - 6:09 pm 2 Comments

I am trying to think of the name of a certain film. I believe it’s about a huge steam ship traveling up the Amazon river… I think the movie might have been made in the 80’s. Does anyone remember what I’m talking about?

Fitzcarraldo, amazing movie. and i’m not sure if you’re a fan of the adult swim cartoon series Metalocalypse, but they parody that film very well in one episode.

what are the best holiday spots in South America to travel with an 10 month old?

September 25, 2009 - 5:15 pm 1 Comment

I’d like to visit either Peru or Brazil in November (Thanksgiving time). But I am concerned on whether it is safe to go there with my 8 month old baby. I’ve heard that the altitude in Machu Picchu might make it tough for a baby to breathe, and I personally think that the Amazon won’t be safe either. So I’d like to know of other baby friendly places to visit in the area where the entire family can have a good time. All suggestions are welcome! Thanks

I think you had best bone up on the politics of the countries in South America. Brazil is relatively safe and does have modern medical care if needed. However, the country is plagued by gang violence. So if you go, I would strictly stay in the el touristo mode. In other words, I would not stray from the beaten path.

Argentina is another relatively safe country to visit and is the SA country that’s most similar to the US. I would be careful traveling around the countryside however, because its real estate ads use proximity to a police station as a selling point. That should tell you something.

Uruguay, like Argentina, is a very Europe nation and is very safe, compared to other South American countries. Montevideo also has wonderful beaches and beautiful people. With an 8 month old baby you might not be interested in beautiful people…but then again.

Chile is also safe and it has an interesting area to the south that is reminiscent of Switzerland but with volcanoes. You’ll also find a lot of ex-Nazis there, so if fascism isn’t your thing, you might not want to bring up your egalitarian beliefs.

Other than these four countries, I would not want to visit the rest, much less with a baby. Bolivia, Peru, Venezuela, Columbia and Paraguay are political nightmares with revolutions and violence a constant everyday occurrence. If I was in a suicidally adventurous mood, which happens to me every twenty years or so, I would venture it, but definitely not with an infant.

Personally, I’m partial to Buenas Aires because of its Parisian atmosphere the tango. But that’s just little old sophisticated me. I hope I been of some use.
