So I’m watching a documentary about these little jungle dudes in the Amazon. Why do they paint anti Bush signs

September 3, 2009 - 1:19 pm 10 Comments

In the Jungle On the trees On their canoe On their grass house.
The signs were in their own pictographic text. Not copied from bumper stickers.

It proves even isolated Amazonian tribes know Bush is no good!

How similar are the jungles of the Amazon, Congo and Borneo?

September 1, 2009 - 2:07 pm 4 Comments

If you took a layman, blindfolded, and stood him in a random spot in each of the three jungles (then removed the blindfold), would he be able to tell that was in three seperate jungles or not?

Thanks

If you took a Yanomamo out of the Amazon and dropped him in Borneo, he probably would sense that he was out of his element by the different sounds and scents. I doubt the ordinary man would be able to tell the difference unless he had some schooling in rainforests and knew what species of fauna and flora went where.

Peru 06 Amazon Jungle Rope Bridge

Our family tours the jungle high above the trees. This Peruvian rope bridge is strewn high above the trees and jungle. Of course, there is no quality control on the ropes so they’re probably weakened from a rash of “jungle Rot” and we will cartwheel to our deaths down below. Or at least that is the anxiety that seizes cousin matt in this latest version of his “fear of heights.”

Which is worst, to be lost in the jungle(Amazon) or stuck on top of the mountain(K2)?

August 30, 2009 - 4:16 pm 15 Comments

I’ve been in both, and I can certainly say that being lost in the Amazon jungle is the worst. Eventually people will gather and get you from the mountain, or very slowly you’ll go down, even if it takes days but you will. Meanwhile in a mountain you could seek for shelter on a ledger or in a cave, dig for fresh roots for water and food…
Lost in the jungle you’re at the mercy of everything around you: Dangerous animals and insects, yes, dangerous insects; dangerous plants, deep and terrible waters infected with all types of creatures and a bottom full of mud and holes. And a very long list that will make you shriek. Being lost in the jungle also means there’s no human contact. No one could help you if you had a bite or an infection or a simple twisted ankle that will be infected with time because in a jungle You Cannot Stop and Camp or Sit and Wait, you just cannot unless you want to perish without "anyone" noticing it…
