Thailand or Brazil for 6mounths to a year (maybe more depending)?

I am a 22 year old california guy who has saved up and am selling my car to break free of work and school to run off to an exotic place and I’m completely torn on the two.

I’ve been doing reaserch on both places and so far both destinations have what I’m looking for…
Thailand: Cheap, beautiful beaches, freindly to Americans, somewhat safe to lone travellers, great night life(full moon ceremonies), cool lookin tours… but I heard the culture is way different and It’s easy to accidently offend someone (touch their head, point at your feet?)

Brazil: Not as cheap as Thailand but less than the states, has the beaches, people are warm and welcoming (plus blonde haird Americans are exotic I hear true?), geourges women (Im single), highest rated nightlife(rio, new year, carnival), amazon tours… but I’m told that travelling alone there can be chancy and not many speak eglish (eu falo um pouco)
think I’ll have enough money to live for a while in either places then (work?)

hello jordan.. i’m from brazil and i think you commit a little mistake by classifying this country as exotic… it’s a western coutry after all. moreover, there are lots of blonde people in south brazil, as it was colonized mostly by northern italians, slavs and germans.

anyway, indeed brazilians tend to like foreigners, you probably will be able to make many friends.. but take care, there are lots of scumbags of both sexes. many women like americans and wish to marry them, not all are sluts… some are honest who like foreigners and want a better place to live , but be careful. indeed few people can understand english, especially spoken english (i’m one of those who barely can understand spoken english, if said in a fast pace). concerning working, you can work as an english teacher, maybe many schools hire a native speakers.

about violence, i think it’s no SO serious… avoiding drug dealers is a must, obviously.

by the way, amazon, iguaçu falls, rio de janeiro, and other nice places are all far apart from each other, so you will need to travel a lot.

good luck

Get your butt to Thailand. They don’t mind if you make social fauxpaws as long as your intentions are good. I got married there and have decided to settle down there as soon as my insurance comes thru. Learning the language is a B$%^&! but worth the effort.

Thailand is the best! Im from California too and the same age as you and looked at both countries and Thailand is the best! You are crazy if you go anywhere else! Crazy!!!!! Thais are not as "easily offendable" as you think. They party and have fun and act wild alot more than anyone I can think of! Thailand is the best!!!! And the nightlife in Thailand is 100X better than anywhere. Make sure you go to Pattaya for the Songkran Festival in April (its 7 days of nothing but partying and doesnt stop 24/7). People say Chiang Mai is best for Songkran…but you have time to do both because they fall on different dates. Pattaya is a non traditional crazy wild party form of Songkran and Chiang Mai is the traditional form of Songkran which lasts only 3 days. Go Go Go!!!
