What will happen if I buy my Blackberry Tour on Amazon for the no-contract price?

September 1, 2009 - 2:06 pm

I talked to Verizon, and if i buy the Tour for the no-contract price through them, i will be setting up a new 2 year contract, which means i can’t get another phone for the regular price until 2 years from the day I buy my Tour. Confusing? If I buy the Tour through Amazon, can I just use this the phone for my current 2 year contract, which will end next December? Or will I have to set it up as a new upgrade, which makes my next upgrade 2 years from the day I buy the Tour?
Any knowledge on this topic would be appreciated.

If you buy the phone through Amazon, you still need to go to Verizon to get it turned on for use, but you should be able to claim that you aren’t "upgrading" just changing your phone and so the new phone is a simple replacement and would not use up your "upgrade" for the contract you are already in.

that’s correct, if you buy the tour for the no contract price, it’ll renew your contract and you won’t get your new every two discount (or eligible upgrade discount)
if you buy the tour through amazon you can activate it yourself by calling *228 or logging into your verizon wireless account online. to my knowledge it won’t affect your upgrade next december seeing as you didn’t buy from verizon. you can move from phone to phone and activate it as "existing equipment"

and if you do decide to get the tour, you also have to activate the phone and get a data plan (BIS or BES) if you don’t already have one.

    hope this helps :)
