Should I go to the Amazon Jungle in Peru or Lima, Peru?

The Peruvian amazon jungle, of course. Beautiful!
You have to stop in Lima anyway to go to the jungle.
Many jungle cities you can visit and also virgin jungle.
You need the yellow fever shot and its card to show it when you arrive to the airport.
Enjoy!
My points pls ;)

Lima has a lot of poverty and if that is offputting to you I would suggest the Amazon. But Lima is beautiful.

I’m not sure how you plan on traveling to the Jungle, but chances are that in order to do so, you will have to go through Lima. Almost all international flights into Peru go into Lima. If this is the case, why not do both.

I visited Peru recently (Lima, Cusco, Macchu Piccu) and really enjoyed it. It is true that Lima is a huge, noisy, congested city. However, there are many things to see in Lima that will help you appreciate more when you visit other parts of the country. If you don’t see Lima, you will miss a good deal of Peruvian culture that is interesting to see.

If the noise and congestion is a problem, stay in Miraflores. It is an oceanside suburb but is very nice and you can get into town by taxi

To get to the Amazon from an international flight, you have to stop in Lima. You’d probably take another plane to the Amazon from there. But if you’re already stopping in Lima, why not stick around for a few days? It’s a wonderful city. Very colorful, and full of history and culture that’s really just fascinating to explore. It is rather noisy and crowded, and depending on where you are in Lima the poverty rate is rather high. But I personally enjoyed Lima very much… especially the shore, that area of the city is wonderful. The nightlife is good too.

The Amazon would probably be a more enlightening experience for you if you’ve never been somewhere so exotic. It was undoubtedly one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen (the other one would be Machu Picchu… an awesome trip to say the least). Very hot, humid, muddy, and… isolated. I’ve never felt so far away from civilization and yet so connected. If you visit the Amazon, try to find a good lodge that’s more open to the elements; I stayed in one that had no outside walls (every room had an open wall to the forest. it was more like camping than anything). Really an amazing experience. Sorry, I keep saying that. Anyway, if you really need to just choose one, I guess just go with which place sounds like it’ll suit you best. If you’re a nature loving person, consider the Amazon. Although I would never consider myself even remotely the outdoorsy type, I enjoyed the rainforest immensely. But, if it’s not your thing and you don’t like shots (malaria shot, yellow fever shot, etc.) you should probably consider Lima.

Well, good luck. I hope you enjoy your stay in Peru!
