What should I do? Should I continue?

Okay so I had this great book ideal two years ago and decided to start working on it last year november and now as I was cruising through amazon I noticed a book that just got out and it is very similar to my story. I don’t know if I should continue with mine because people might start saying I copied the book.
And I know that lots of people wrote vampire books way before Twilight or the included the name Edward in their story and people automatically assume they copied Twilight and have no ears to hear the truth.
So what should I do?

its really hard to come up with a original story. if i try hard enough i could find something in any of my stories that could be from some other story even though it is not. i say go for it! some time along the way you might add some twist in the plot that changes the story completely! but don’t force any change. good luck!

i’m not sure. many things are not original anymore. and you cannot claim originality if someone else published something similar even if you didn’t know of their project.

you can continue but make sure you have a different story line with different character names so the association is lesser.

Nothings original anymore, trust me. I can assure you, the same idea has been done more than once in this world. The only difference is the unique breath of life you yourself injects into the story. Your characters, your dialogue and situations, your setting, etc.
But if there are some serious similarities, then I’d suggest you adjust your story a bit.
From what I seemed to have gathered from your question, you’re writing a vampire novel with the name Edward in it, correct? The solution is to make your character Edward completely different from Twilight’s Edward, your goal is make your audience never once link those two together (except, maybe the name).
I say, go for it. Sure, vampire stories are being done to death at the moment, but think of it this way-
The vampire starved demographic=buying anything vampire related, which means your book will be bought and could become extremely popular (labeled the next Twilight).
    Or….
Your novel will take some time to finish and become published, and by the time of publication, everything "vampire" is out and your novel might be more respected.
It’s really your call, but if this is something you’re serious about and love to do, then your worries of people scoffing at your idea shouldn’t matter (in fact, they really shouldn’t matter either way).
    Good luck with everything :)
