Why are phones so cheap on amazon.com?

February 5, 2010 - 2:26 pm 3 Comments

i really want the blackberry tour and i found one on amazon.com.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002GJTS3I/ref=asc_df_B002GJTS3I1015672?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=googlecom09c9-20&linkCode=asn&creative=380341&creativeASIN=B002GJTS3I

however, if i get the phone at a verizon wireless store, it costs around $200 but why does this one only cost $50?
is it because it is used? and could i still use it even though my phone hasnt expired yet?

Actually, if you bought it from the Verizon website, it would be $100 (with a 2 year contract).

Cell phones are almost always much less expensive at authorized retailers than at the carrier’s store and they’re always less expensive online. The authorized retailers are willing to accept little or nothing on the sale of the handset to entice people to buy from them. They make their money on a percentage of the plan.

Ecuador/Galapagos information please?

We are thinking of going to Peru, Amazon & Galapagos in April 2010.
Our tour agent is Andean Trails in Scotland - has anyone travelled with these before if so did you have any problems?
They have suggested we stay in Guayaquil over night before the cruise to Galapagos, now i know that is really rough, but has anyone else stayed here - what was it like? It is basically to reduce the flying we have to do.
We have also been quoted for a 5 day trip on the Angelique ship - has anyone else been on this - was it noisy etc?

about Guayaquil, if you’re afraid of the city- it’s not bad. it’s a very big city but one of the most safest cities in Latin America (off course not counting bad neighborhoods). not so much to do thought…
there’s a very nice promenade and a beautiful view at night.
have fun, the Galapagos islands are amazing.

What are some recommendations for Ayahuasca ‘tours’ in the Amazon?

February 3, 2010 - 2:51 am 1 Comment

Any recommendations? Doesn’t need to be Peru.

percy Garcia in Iquitos, Peru. Honest, transparent and has a beautiful lodge in deep jungle, private cabins and the ceremonial maloca are screened in. The maloca is built on stilts over a small river.
He’s in the mid-range of prices at $525 per week or $75 a night. Holds ceremonies on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and doesn’t do big groups so you get lots of attention. Best of all he has an assistant and excellent healer in his own right, Carlos. He’s completely bi lingual. Check with alanshoemaker@hotmail.com to make reservations.
And the annual International Amazonian Shamanism Conference that are held in Iquitos, Peru every July. They’re awesome with around 200 people coming from everywhere and there’s 12 or so invited Shamans that speak and hold ceremonies. Website is www.soga-del-alma.org

South America Itinerary?

February 3, 2010 - 2:51 am 2 Comments

Hola!

I’m planning a 3 month trip to South America with two friends for the end of this year, November -> February.

We have a list of countries :

Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

We’re thinking of starting in Chile, working our way down south then back up north through Argentina and maybe doing an Amazon cruise into Brazil. We’d also like to stop by Easter Island and the Galapagos Islands.

Can I get some more suggestions on the order of countries to visit?

Thanks!

Be aware that most Latin American countries essential shut down in December for the Christmas holidays. This is the height of their tourist season so you should get your reservations in now.

That said, I would recommend this itinernary:
Start with Brazil, then go down to Buenos Aires. Stay in Argentina to the Patagonia, visit the Peninsula de Valdez (See the orcas, penguins, and seal colonies). From there, go over to the Lakes of southern Chile and Bariloche in Argentina. Go up through chile to Santiago (maybe a side trip to Mount Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the hemisphere). Easter Island is Chilean territory so arrange your visit from there. From there the Atacama Desert to Peru - Nasca, Macchu Picchu, Lima. Peruvian food is outstanding, don’t miss the seafood. See the Volcanos and mountains in Ecuador and try to see the Galapagos from there. Finally don’t miss Colombia. Forget everything you’ve heard about this country, it’s a beautiful place with wonderful people. See Cali, Bogota, and Cartagena. Venezuela is nice but by this point the only thing worth seeing will be Angel Falls.

Where should we go on holiday in april 2010?

January 29, 2010 - 10:25 am 8 Comments

We can have up to 3 weeks off work but only in april and want to do a trip of a life time. We aren’t into the normal places like Spain, Mexico etc, we like off the beaten track type of holidays. We don’t mind cruises or multi centre. Our interests are wildlife & photography. Some of the places we have been already are:
Kenya
South Africa
Brazil
Borneo & Kuala Lumpur
Canada & Alaska

We don’t mind travelling as long as the flights aren’t really early. We want the holiday to be as relaxed as possible but we want lots to do. We were thinking about Peru, Amazon & Galapagos but i think that is turning out abit too expensive and the flights are a bit annoying as there is stop offs.

We don’t want to do Australia. don’t worry about budget.

Any suggestions please

Given your interests, I would second the suggestion for Costa Rica. Visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest there and with all the time you have, combine it with Belize (see the jaguars if you’re lucky) and maybe some of Panama.

Personally, I like the Netherlands at the end of April. There isn’t a lot of wildlife, but you can find some interesting waterbirds around. There are lots of photo opportunities though; I get a couple of thousand photos every year. The tulips are usually at their peak then.

Which travel books is better: Fodors, Moon or National Geographic Traveler?

January 17, 2010 - 8:39 am 3 Comments

I am going to travel to one Central American country, need a book with local hotels, restaurants, roads and other points of interest listings.

Amazon has these four: Lonely Planer, Fodors, Moon and National Geographic Traveler. All about $13-$17.

Which one is better?

Lonely Planet!!! By far the best travel books. I have tried them all and I have been to different locations in the far east, europe and south america, US and Hawaii also.

You can also take these books out the the library or buy slightly used copies on Amazon. I have done that too.

Why is Guitar Hero World Tour w/ Guitar less expensive that Guitar Hero III w/ Guitar?

January 17, 2010 - 8:39 am 1 Comment

GH3:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000TGB4UU/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=
GHWT:
http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Wii-Guitar-Hero-World-Tour/dp/B001ABLHKA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1261684673&sr=1-2

I understand why GHWT is cheaper than GH5 (because GHWT is older):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0029Y5INE/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

But why is GH3 so expensive when it came out 2 years ago? Does GH3 come with 2 guitars?

Wiki about GH3: "The title is the first installment of the series to include wireless guitars bundled with the game and also the first to release a special bundle with two guitars."

Let me know, thanks!

This is just my opinion, but I have GH3 and GHWT and I would understand why GH3 is more expensive: It’s a much better game. GH3 has classic songs that are well known. It’s probably a supply and demand thing. (I think GH3’s songs are even better than GH5 but, again, that’s just my opinion.)

The link you showed wasn’t for the set with two guitars. The two guitar bundle says plainly on the box "Dual Guitar Starter Pack" and it shows the two guitars it comes with. Here’s an example for GHWT’s bundle set:

If you’re debating on getting one of these two games I’d go with GH3. Yeah, it’s older but better.

Space travel. Astral bodies lack mass so does rules of space/time apply to them?

January 13, 2010 - 5:48 pm 3 Comments

If Astral projection is true (out of our bodies) then we in that form should not be limited to natural laws of space time and distance for that matter.

Just hanging out on another planet observing Aliens doing stuff. I thought would be cool, but then again just going to the Amazon and watching the wild life there would be kinda the same. Do you think it’s possible for us to evolve to the point of astral travel to other worlds?

No space/time & scientific laws as we currently understand them do not apply to the astral body nor the astral realm. Space/time do not really exist in the way scientists currently understand it. They are illusions. As long as you are subjected to this dimension & your 5 physical senses you will never really see past these illusions with your ‘ordinary senses’ (at least not in this time in evolution).

What do you mean: ‘Do you think it’s possible for us to evolve to the point of astral travel to other worlds?’
We don’t have to evolve more in order to do it. We already can do it. It’s a natural ability we all have. It’s up to you to learn & practice it if you want to experience it for yourself. People have been doing it for thousands of years. In modern society though it is not common because we are all so materialistically minded & too reliant on technology. These things will hinder & suppress your natural abilities.

The astral body is not made of electricity or anything similar. It is a nonphysical formless construction of your mind & is a part of your very mind itself.
